The ground beneath my apple tree is littered with partially eaten apples. A bite here, a bite there, and then drop it on the ground! Today I discovered the culprit. As I suspected, a squirrel, aka Tree Rat.
This one was particularly tenacious. When I tried to shoo him away, he held his ground, or branch as it was, and chattered at me. I chattered back and he hissed! Throwing an apple at him only caused him to climb higher up in the tree as he intended to wait me out.
What to do now? Channeling Carl from Caddyshack I grabbed the hose and chased him from the tree. Humpft. I’m sure he’ll be back tomorrow to torment me again.
