I was having breakfast out on the deck Saturday when I noticed a lot more birds than usual. I grabbed the camera and took some pictures. Here’s who stopped to visit. There was also a blue jay and a pair of cardinals, but they didn’t stay long enough for a photo.
This is probably a Downy Woodpecker. The Downy and Hairy Woodpecker look a lot alike and it was difficult to tell the size way up in the tree. But I usually only see Downys in the backyard.
Chipping Sparrow.
There were quite a few robins, many of them juveniles. They are the ones with the speckled breast that hasn’t turned orange yet. They are also friendlier than the adults and don’t fly off as quickly. This one walked towards me instead of fleeing.
The juvenile robins are so cute. Everything is new to them. This one checks out my ceramic yard duck.
About 2 seconds after I shot this the grackle pecked the young robin in the head and chased him away.
This little woodpecker was climbing the tree with his parents.
Here’s the mom only a few feet away on the same tree. The male was up a little higher out of the frame. He flew away before I could get a picture.
