For the past few weeks there has been a bunny in my yard all evening. Rabbits are primarily active at dusk and dawn. In the summer I would occasionally see them during the day, usually eating something in my garden, but never after dark. This picture was taken about 9pm. I just looked outside and [...]

This Round Goes To The Squirrel

One of the smaller gray squirrels has been climbing up on the bird feeders and I could not figure out how he was doing it. He would only jump up there when I wasn’t looking. I have squirrel baffles on both feeder poles and the nearest tree branches are too high for him to jump [...]

Inquisitive Sparrows

These inquisitive house sparrows were fluttering around the new nestbox for about 5 minutes before they gave up. There were five or six of them at one point. Not sure what they were doing. It’s not nesting season, and they probably would not fit through the hole anyway. It’s sized at 1 1/8 inches. I’m [...]

This little guy walked right onto the deck and stopped a few feet away from me. I wouldn’t mind them in the garden if they weren’t so destructive. As soon as they see freshly tilled dirt they start to dig. Too bad if I just planted seeds there.

It took less than a week for the birds to find the new feeder. This black-capped chickadee is enjoying a breakfast of sunflower seeds.

The Bumble Bees were out in force yesterday. There haven’t been as many this year. Maybe the sunny afternoon brought them to my yard. This one is happily sipping on a marigold flower.

I was having breakfast out on the deck Saturday when I noticed a lot more birds than usual. I grabbed the camera and took some pictures. Here’s who stopped to visit. There was also a blue jay and a pair of cardinals, but they didn’t stay long enough for a photo. This is probably a [...]
House Wrens Leave the Nest

Success! Three baby house wrens fledged the nestbox this morning. They were soooo cute. They came flying out of the box within about 10 minutes of each other. When I say “flying” I mean that loosely. With their stubby little tail feathers and short wings they are quite awkward and can only fly a short [...]
Baby Wrens

About two months ago a male house wren claimed a birdhouse I have on my garage. It’s been there for years but no birds have ever nested in it. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with it! This little bird filled the box with sticks and then sat on the fence and [...]
